that I must trouble you with papers connected
with his interview with me.

me a copy of a number of the "Hong Kong Naturalist",
with which he is concerned, and the scientific
separates reprinted therefrom.
What he wants to
secure is sympathy towards his endeavours in viology
in the Far East and Iunds for the continuation of
the "Hong Kong Naturalist".
de gave me the
following estimates of cost and said that, in order
to see the way clear, he must raise a further £175
per annum. I gathered that the higher University
authorities rather looked upon this work as being
outside the normal work of the University, uut I
told him that, if he was to approaca Trusts or other
like vodies, he would have to have the full support
of the University and might have to make
applications through that channel. The possibility of getting money from the Boxer indemnity was
discussed, as also was the possiuility of securing
money from the Carnegie Trustees.
I believe the
latter might be favourably disposed to consider an
endowment grant for a scientific section of a
library and the puulication of a journal like the
"Hong Kong Naturalist", ii they were approached in
the right way from the Univerai vý Only a small sun
